Quad Foreign Ministers to Meet in New Delhi on May 26

NEW DELHI — The foreign ministers of Australia and Japan and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will visit New Delhi to attend the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on May 26, India’s Ministry of External Affairs said Friday.
The meeting will be hosted at the invitation of External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi and Rubio are expected to take part.
The ministry said the visit reflects continued high-level engagement among Quad partners and reinforces their shared vision for a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.
“In keeping with the Quad vision for a Free and Open Indo-Pacific, the Ministers will build on discussions held in Washington, DC on 1 July 2025,” the ministry said. “They will exchange views on advancing Quad cooperation across priority areas, review progress on ongoing Quad initiatives, and reflect on recent developments in the Indo-Pacific region and other international issues of mutual concern.”
The Quad includes India, Australia, Japan and the United States. The grouping has focused on cooperation in the Indo-Pacific amid shifting regional security and economic dynamics.
The New Delhi meeting is expected to cover maritime security, resilient supply chains, infrastructure development, critical and emerging technologies, climate action, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
The ministers are also expected to review ongoing Quad initiatives aimed at strengthening regional stability and economic growth.
During their visit, Wong, Motegi and Rubio are expected to hold bilateral meetings with Jaishankar. They are also scheduled to call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during their stay in New Delhi.
The meeting comes as Quad members seek to deepen coordination on shared regional and global challenges.
Ahead of his visit, Rubio said Washington wants to expand energy ties with New Delhi and strengthen cooperation through the Quad. Speaking to reporters in Miami before leaving for India, with a stopover in Europe, Rubio described India as a “great ally” and “great partner.”
Rubio said the United States is ready to increase energy exports to India as concerns grow over disruptions to global oil and gas supplies linked to tensions in West Asia and the Strait of Hormuz. (Source: IANS)
