Charu Gupta, a former investigative journalist, will join the Veng Group as managing partner of the firm’s new Boston office, which will open later this month. Based in Washington, D.C., the Veng Group is a government relations, communications, public affairs and outreach firm with a client roster that includes national African American, Asian American, Latino and Native American organizations.
“Charu brings a decade of experience of journalism in local communities,” said Vincent A. Eng, Veng Group chief executive officer. “Her decision to specialize in grassroots and mass media and communications for non-profits is a perfect fit for our firm and clients. We look forward to her leadership as she develops our Northeast practice.”
Gupta was most recently a director at The Raben Group, where she did messaging and branding and developed media and advocacy campaigns. She also served as the director of communications for Ohio’s largest foreclosure prevention and community organizing nonprofit, Empowering & Strengthening Ohio’s People.
As an investigative reporter, Gupta has won numerous awards for her journalism. In 2009 alone, three pieces of investigative reporting by Gupta were awarded first place by the Ohio Society of Professional Journalists.
Gupta has a master’s degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Chicago.
